He had previously worked at cheese plants in Northern New York. He had worked at Queensboro Farm Products for 34 years, working in Clinton and later in Canastota, retiring in 1973. He had also lived in Clinton, living, in Canastota most of his life. He attended the 0xbow and Gouverneur schools, graduating from Gouverneur High School in 1931. John had spent his early years in the Gouverneur area. He was born on Apin the Town of Rossie, NY, the son of Albert and Clara Becker Salmon.
